Safety around schools: the ministry's plan for 2026-2027

The Ministry of the Interior is rolling out a school security plan for the whole of 2026-2027. Here's how it works, in plain terms.

A plan to secure educational establishments will cover the whole 2026-2027 school year, the director of traffic police announced on 16 September 2026 on Radio Nationale, according to lapresse.tn. It covers more than 6,100 establishments and mobilises three bodies: the National Security, the National Guard and Civil Protection.

How the plan works day to day

It is impossible to set up a fixed checkpoint in front of every establishment. The ministry therefore combines two measures: fixed points at certain sites and mobile patrols, sometimes in plain clothes.

The plan is not limited to school gates. It also covers the surrounding areas, cafés, public transport and stations.

Direct coordination with headteachers

Preparations began in the summer. Horizontal coordination has been adopted with headteachers to allow a rapid exchange of information and a quick response if a problem arises.

And for the rest of the year

The scheme will continue throughout the school year, the director of traffic police specified. Security campaigns are also continuing in the different regions to fight crime.

No specific steps have been announced for pupils or parents: the plan falls solely under the Ministry of the Interior. For any problem near an establishment, coordination goes through its head office.
