The 2026-2027 school year starts on Tuesday 15 September 2026. Nearly 2.341 million pupils are expected, 22,000 more than the previous year, according to the Ministry of Education, in an announcement reported by lapresse.tn.
Who goes back on 15 September
Primary schools will welcome 1.195 million pupils, including preparatory classes. The preparatory and secondary cycles, including technical education, account for 1.146 million.
Teachers and classes
The teaching workforce stands at 161,300 teachers, up from 158,400 last year. That is 2,993 more teachers. The breakdown: 79,025 primary school teachers and 82,318 teachers in the preparatory and secondary cycles.
As for classes, the ministry announces 92,190 classes, compared with 92,262 the previous year. There are 54,049 in primary and 38,141 in the preparatory and secondary cycles.
18 new schools
The school network now reaches 6,178 schools, 18 more than last year: 4,604 primary schools and 1,574 colleges and lycées.
The ministry has also announced three new specialised educational facilities: a sports complex in Kairouan and two Second Chance schools, in Béja and Nabeul.
