Kaïs Saïed chaired a working meeting on preparations for the school and university year on Wednesday 10 September 2026 at the Carthage Palace. On the agenda: pupil safety, school transport, health and free school supplies and meals.

Who was around the table

Five ministers took part in the meeting: Khaled Nouri (Interior), Issam Lahmar (Social Affairs), Noureddine Nouri (Education), Mondher Belaïd (Higher Education) and Riadh Chouad (Employment and Vocational Training).

The President stressed pupil safety and school transport. He called for support for pupils facing travel difficulties. Some drop out of school because of the distance or the dangers of the road.

Free supplies and education reform

Another point raised: the free provision of school supplies and meals. A subject that directly affects families' purchasing power.

On the reform of the education system, Kaïs Saïed said it is under way and will take the time it needs. According to him, "any poorly thought-out choice... can take nearly twenty years to correct". In education, a bad decision can therefore take about twenty years to fix.

What it means for you

For now, no concrete announcement about the timetable or content of the reform was given in the meeting's report. The reform is described as "under way", with no details on its schedule or its effects on curricula or exams.

Decisions taken should be followed on the side of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, which are preparing the new year with their departments. For exam dates, you can check the official exam calendar as soon as it is published.
