The Office des Oeuvres Scolaires is actively preparing for the 2026-2027 school year, its head Mustapha Karim Bouamoud announced on 9 September 2026. On the agenda: 400,000 pupils covered by school meals and 28,000 to 30,000 pupils expected in boarding hostels.
Canteens: who is affected?
School meals reach two groups. On one side, 300,000 primary school pupils. On the other, 100,000 pupils from preparatory and secondary cycles, either boarders or half-boarders.
On safety, Bouamoud was clear: school meals are subject to the necessary health controls, in coordination with all the parties and bodies involved. Cooks and workers have also been recruited to make up for staff shortages.
Hostels: where can your child stay?
The network includes around 360 school hostels. Maintenance work is nearly finished, the Office states.
Demand for accommodation is concentrated in six governorates: Kasserine, Sidi Bouzid, Béja, Jendouba, Siliana and Kairouan. If you are aiming for a hostel in these regions, get ahead with your paperwork.
Registration and transport: how does it work?
The digital registration platform for hostels, canteens and school grants remains open for middle and secondary school pupils. So register without delay if you are eligible.
As for travel, the Ministry of Education is working with the Ministry of Transport to provide school transport, especially in rural areas. The scheme mainly targets pupils living far from their schools.
