Kaïs Saïed chaired a ministerial meeting at the Carthage palace on 10 September 2026, devoted to preparations for the school and university year as well as the overall reform of the education system. Five ministries were represented.
Who was around the table?
The President brought together the ministries of the Interior, Social Affairs, Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Employment and Vocational Training. A broad panel, a sign that the issue goes beyond the start of the school year alone.
On reform, the Head of State's message is clear: the process is under way and will take the time it needs. He warned that "a misguided choice can only be put right after nearly two decades". In other words, two decades to correct a mistake in education.
What measures for the school year?
Concrete instructions were issued on several fronts:
- the maintenance of school buildings
- school transport
- health monitoring and pupil safety
The President also called for the free distribution of school supplies and guaranteed canteen services.
Why insist on transport? Because distance from school and the dangers of the road are cited as major factors in dropping out of school. A pupil who cannot get to class safely eventually gives up.
What it means for you
If you are sitting the bac in 2027, this meeting changes nothing today in your syllabus or in the exam timetable. The reform is a long-term project, announced as a lengthy one, and no new details about the exams were given at this meeting.
The official exam dates, once they are set, will appear on the ministry's website education.gov.tn and on bac.tn. You will also be able to follow the official exam calendar as soon as it is published.
In the meantime, the only thing that depends on you is your preparation. Institutional announcements, however important they may be, will not change your level in maths or your philosophy essay.
