The cost of the 2026-2027 school year in Tunisia is going up by around 8%. The announcement came on 8 September 2026 from Lotfi Riahi, president of the Tunisian Organisation for Consumer Guidance.

How much does a school bag cost this year?
The gap is huge. A school bag starts at 30 dinars for basic models. The usual prices sit between 70 and 80 dinars.
And it can go much higher. Some branded bags cost over 300 dinars, depending on quality, brand and where the product comes from. One single item, ten times the price of the entry-level model.
As for notebooks, an ordinary one costs between 1,500 and 2,500 dinars. One warning though: some schools ask pupils to buy several extra notebooks, which pushes the bill up fast.
Why are prices going up?
Lotfi Riahi points to the dominance of imported products on the Tunisian market. In his view, this large share of imports puts pressure on prices.
His message: good quality Tunisian products do exist, at more affordable prices. In other words, you can cut the bill by checking the origin label before paying.
