The new secondary school of Bir Bouregba will open its doors at the start of next week, announced Education Minister Noureddine Nouri during his visit to the site on Thursday 10 September 2026. More than 650 students will be welcomed there from day one.
Why this school was built
The school cost more than 8 million dinars. Its goal is clear: to ease the pressure on nearby schools, namely the Bir Bouregba middle school, the Sidi Jedidi middle school and the Boudhina school in Hammamet.
It should also reduce overcrowding and school transport problems in the region. Student numbers are expected to double from the next school year.
A school built to modern standards
The school was built to modern standards. You will find specialised classrooms, cultural and sports spaces, as well as a revision room. A detail that will interest final-year students: a dedicated revision room, that is rare.
The school is also expected to introduce the single-session system.
During his visit, the minister said: "The Bir Bouregba school is a true educational beacon." He added: "We know that not all our schools are at the level of the new Bir Bouregba school, but we are working within a clear vision to promote public education."
23 new schools for the new term
This school will not be alone. 23 new schools will come into service across the governorates for this school year.
Another useful piece of news for education staff families: the ministry has published the final recruitment results, including teachers. Appointments are planned from 14 September, with staff starting on the same day.
